Kazuhira Miller
The Right Hand
Big Boss's right hand and the operational backbone of Mother Base. In Peace Walker, Kaz is the voice in your ear keeping MSF running — and the partnership that builds an army.
Kept you waiting, huh?
Behind every army is someone making sure the payroll clears and the helicopters have fuel. For Big Boss, that someone is Kazuhira Miller — the sharp, pragmatic operator who turns a band of mercenaries into a functioning private military.
Who he is
Kaz is the co-founder of Militaires Sans Frontières and Big Boss’s closest partner during the Mother Base years. Where Big Boss provides the legend and the ideals, Miller provides the logistics, the recruiting drive and the hard-nosed business sense that keeps the dream solvent. He’s the one who actually runs the place.
He’s also, famously, the keeper of one of the series’ most quoted lines — “Kept you waiting, huh?” — which has become shorthand for the whole Big Boss era.
Kaz in Peace Walker
In Peace Walker, Miller is your constant companion. He briefs you before missions, manages the Mother Base systems, and pushes the expansion of MSF at every turn. As you Fulton-recover soldiers and grow your teams, it’s Kaz organising them into R&D, combat and support divisions. Mechanically, he’s the friendly interface to the base-building that defines the game; narratively, he’s the practical conscience to Big Boss’s grand vision.
Their dynamic is the engine of Peace Walker. Two men, one a living legend and one a brilliant fixer, building something that feels noble — and which the rest of the saga reveals to be the first step toward catastrophe. There’s real warmth in their partnership, which is exactly what makes the later chapters of the Big Boss story ache.
Why he matters
Miller is essential to understanding the Mother Base era and Big Boss’s fall. He grounds the fantasy of running a private army in something human and personable, and his relationship with Big Boss is one of the most important in the prequel timeline.
