We now know exactly what’s in the box. Konami has detailed the full contents of Master Collection Vol.2 — and beyond the expected headliners, there’s a surprise that had longtime fans cheering.

The two main games

No shocks here, but plenty of excitement:

  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots — the saga’s finale, leaving the PS3 for the first time ever.
  • Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker — Big Boss’s Mother Base origin story, in its HD form.

These are the two pillars of the collection, and on their own they’d make it an easy recommendation. But Konami went further.

The surprise: Ghost Babel

Tucked into the Bonus Content menu is Metal Gear: Ghost Babel — the cult-classic Game Boy Color game released in the West as Metal Gear Solid back in 2000. This is the kind of deep-cut inclusion that makes a collection feel like a labour of love rather than a cash-in.

Ghost Babel has been notoriously hard to play legally for over two decades. It’s a standalone, alternate-continuity stealth game widely considered one of the best handheld entries the genre has ever produced. Bundling it in is a real preservation win, and it’s the bonus a lot of hardcore fans are most delighted by. We’ve got a full breakdown of Ghost Babel if you want to know what makes it special.

The restored MGS4 Database

Another standout extra: the Metal Gear Solid 4 Database is being restored and included. Originally a companion encyclopaedia released around MGS4’s launch, the Database is a sprawling reference covering the series’ characters, events and terminology up to 2008. It had effectively been lost to time — having it playable again from inside the collection is a genuinely thoughtful touch, and a huge help for anyone trying to keep the dense lore straight.

The rest of the extras

Rounding out the package, in keeping with Vol.1’s approach:

  • Screenplay books — read through the full scripts of the games.
  • Master books — deeper background on story and characters.
  • Digital soundtrack — Metal Gear Solid: Digital Soundtrack Vol.2, collecting iconic music and vocal themes (in the digital edition).
  • Digital reproductions of the original game boxes and instruction manuals.

We cover all of these in detail on the bonus content and extras page.

A proper archive

What stands out across the whole contents reveal is the preservation mindset. This isn’t just two big games thrown together — it’s a curated set with a lost handheld classic, a restored encyclopaedia, the original scripts, the music and the manuals. For a series with as much history and as devoted a fanbase as Metal Gear, that care matters.
