The Return of Peace Walker Co-op: What to Expect in Master Collection Vol. 2
Peace Walker's co-op is returning in Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. Here is how PC and console features could elevate the multiplayer stealth.
While the preservation of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots remains the headline story of the upcoming bundle, the return of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is shaping up to be the package’s true multiplayer highlight. With the collection officially headed to PC and modern consoles—including Nintendo’s upcoming successor platform, the Nintendo Switch 2—players are preparing to recruit soldiers, build Mother Base, and fight giant AI weapons with friends.
Initially designed for the PlayStation Portable’s local ad-hoc connections, Peace Walker was later adapted for online play in the PS3 and Xbox 360 HD Editions. However, those older servers are increasingly difficult to access today. The announcement of the new collection means the tactical cooperative gameplay will soon be more accessible than ever.
Cooperative Tactical Espionage Action
Unlike traditional entries in the series, Peace Walker was built from the ground up around multiplayer cooperation. Up to four players can tackle boss fights together, while standard infiltration missions support two-player co-op.
The cooperative mechanics go far beyond simply sharing a screen. Players can share items, sync their stealth movements, perform co-op Close Quarters Combat (CQC), and even utilize a shared cardboard box. Fulton recovery operations, a central loop of the gameplay, also become much faster when executed by a coordinated team. For those new to the PSP-era structure, our beginner guide for Peace Walker covers these core loops in detail.
Modern Networking Expectations
Modern platforms bring new possibilities for online stability. Steam integration and updated console network APIs should theoretically make lobby creation and matchmaking much smoother than they were on legacy platforms.
